While the characters and their stories are fictional, the descriptions of the times and places they inhabit are built on real world historical research—

—the work of archeologists, scientists who unearth the things early peoples left behind: weapons, tools, pots, jewelry, sculptures and toys made of stone, clay, metal and bones.

Many thousands of years later, some people began to also leave written records inscribed in stone, clay and metal and written in ink on papyrus and dried goatskins. Archeologists cracked the codes of their ancient languages to discover what the words meant.

Working with geologists, paleontologists, botanists and others, archeologists studied their findings to piece together a picture of how early peoples lived through the ages.

    Starting in the caves of Stone Age Europe, a teenage boy encounters a Neanderthal girl.

  • The Domestication of Bubba

    Readers travel to what is now Syria, where a forager girl meets a prehistoric farming family.

    A shy village girl finds her voice in a copper mine in Eastern Serbia.

  • Damu’s Great Escape

    In Uruk, Mesopotamia, a teenage boy escapes from scribe school and indentured slavery.

  • Egypt’s Got Talent

    In Thebes, Egypt, a girl auditions to be a dancer in Pharaoh's court.

  • Something’s Fishy in Athens

    A young weaver and her grandmother travel to Athens, Greece and help rescue a young bride.

Meet the Creators

  • Lynn Zimmermann is a mother, grandmother, former teacher, school principal, district curriculum director, and university instructor. She believes that kids live fully in the present, look forward to the future, and love stories that bring to life long-ago times and places that might otherwise lie buried in the past.

  • William Harrar is an accomplished Canadian-American playwright who lives in Manitoba Province, Canada. Bill shares his wry humor and special interest in ancient history in the stories of Ancient World Adventures.

  • Rachel Zhu is an illustrator based in Vancouver, British Columbia, who recently graduated with a BFA in Illustration at Rhode Island School of Design. Rachel loves children's media and strives to inspire joy and appreciation for the every day and ordinary through their art. Most of their work is illustrated digitally.
